Hi my niece sent me this picture of her coin. Could someone let me know a little history on the coin. I could give her no info on the coin. In fact i could not believe when i seen a pig on the rev..

Your niece has a very interesting modern world coin. First of all, it is from Bermuda. The pig was chosen as the central design feature because the coins that are commonly considered the first coins of the New World also featured a pig. They were minted from 1615 to 1616 and are called "hogge money". The "hogge money" coins were minted for use on the Sommer Islands, which are now called Bermuda. So, in a sense, your niece's coin is a commemorative that commemorates the very first North American coin.
