Hello all, and thank you for having and participating in this much needed forum for us casual collectors.
I am a 51 year old self-employed (fool) metal railing specialist, who has been collecting since about 1965 when my older brother and Grandfather got me started sifting through all the change I could find. For about 10 years I was quite active, have many 'Whitman' books, and a neat little low-budget collection.
Recently since Grandpa passed away and my brother no longer collects, I had drifted away from regular collecting, but recently I have gotten together with a few friends from church and we have been meeting tri-annually for the past few years as a casual coin collecting group, and we have gone to a few shows together.
My collecting focus has been mostly Lincoln Pennies, some later nickles and dimes, Morgan & Peace Dollars, and the 20 higher-end gold coins I currently keep.
I am a HUGE believer of online forums, as when they pick up momentum, they can be a precious and powerful asset for all. I have been involved with the AllPar (Chrysler Owners) forum for almost 10 years, and several smaller Ford Focus, etc), as well as an "Expert" contributor in welding, fabrication and home repair forums.
Very happy to find this, and hopefully we can attract additional members who can add to the knowledge base.

Hello and welcome from the forgotten one. My background is in World Coins mainly 16th to 19th century European coinage. As for US coinage, Morgans I can help you out with.

I was the one that posted that, but don't worry, no one is offended. That was just a joke because I thought your post was worded in a humorous way. We all have our specialties. Daniel's is U.S. coins, mine is error coins and regandon's is world coins.

Sorry guys, your ALL wrong! I specialize in helping collectors, new and old, and as far as numismatic questions, my knowledge is best when it comes to coin pictures, and online auction scams and frauds. I have a keen sense of coin dealer's and what goes on behind the scenes also. Growing up in coin shops, I learned just the basics, enough to make money because that's what it was all about, and not helping the collector learn. I always felt this was wrong and did more harm to collecting than anything. Anyway, a big welcome to this great forum!

[quote="Daniel"] Growing up in coin shops, I learned just the basics, enough to make money because that's what it was all about, and not helping the collector learn. I always felt this was wrong and did more harm to collecting than anything. This reason is a truly great one for being here Daniel. I do think we all need to realize coin dealers and coin shops ARE businesses, they have overhead they need to cover just like any other business, and that overhead covering sometimes 'skews' their relationship with people who walk through their doors. I am very much into and Photography and Coins and E-Bay, so it seems as if we shall be riding parallel ships here. Thanks Dean.
