A Little Note Before Using This Price Guide:
The below values are just a guide of what the particular date and mint has sold for, and not what a dealer will pay for the coin. A collector should consult The Official Coin Blue Book for values dealers might pay. The list is a compilation of the most rare dates and of the most valuable and recognized varieties only. If a date and mint is not listed then it's considered common and the value for common date Buffalo Nickels range from $1.50-$2.00 in Good G4 grade.

Each value is for a coin that will Grade in Good 4 (G4) condition, unless otherwise noted, and as the grade (that's not listed) increases so shall the value of that particular date. Also, a coin that's not listed with a mint mark is referred to as 'P' or 'Plain' and was struck at the Philadelphia Mint were they didn't put a mint mark on Buffalo Nickels.

Further research should be considered, besides the aforementioned Blue Book, before determining the actual value of a particular date, mint and grade of a Peace Dollar. For example, CDN or The Coin Dealer News Letter (Greysheet), The Red Book (The official Guide Book Of United States Coins), ebay completed auctions, ads in coin publications with a list of what the dealer is paying, or a trustworthy, local dealer.
1937-D 3 LEGGED BUFFALO NICKEL
How To Identify Fake 3 Leg Buffalo Nickels
Use a magnifier or microscope to carefully examine a possible missing leg Buffalo. If you see fine lines, scratches or "rub" marks the coin may be altered, and not an authentic 3 Legged Buffalo. All examples should be submitted to a top tier grading company for grading, protection (that an airtight slab offers) and authentication. It's not advised that a collector buy raw examples of this variety or any variety without a reputable dealer's advice or slabbed in a top tier grading service holder.

One should also check for date and mint mark alterations, as these have been found. The only date and mints that are 3 Legged Buffalo Nickels is the 1937-D. The 1936-D is referred to as 3 1/2 legs, because some or half of the leg is missing, however, this is the most valuable of the two. Refer to our price list below.
